CARMINE EMIL RIALLI
[/font]I long to be like you,
Lie cold in the ground like you.
bad cop:
state your name and any aliases you go by.
[disbelieving stare] “Carmine Emil Rialli. As you could guess, I go by Carmine. It is my first name and highly descriptive, after all.”
state your age. [pauses] your real age, smartass.
“It wasn’t as if I was going to tell you any differently. [shakes head slightly] I am one hundred and eighty years old, but I appear to be twenty-three.”
state your occupation or what you consider it to be.
“Really? Trust me, it is a job keeping Silas Metzger in check. I am his second command, which entails calming him down, meeting with the beings he doesn’t desire to see, and advising him not to kill everyone who annoys him.”
good cop:
so what was it like growing up with a family like yours?
“My family didn’t really matter. I was the only child born to Alfonso and Cristiana Rialli, second generation Italian Americans. After me they didn’t need to try anymore; I was a boy, and I could carry on their name. Why have more kids? They were rich, so there was no need for a girl to marry off for money. Besides, that would have been extra work. My childhood was a simple one. I got everything I desired and never caused any trouble. I kept to myself and, because of this, had few friends, preferring to entertain myself and make up games on my own – no one else’s ideas were ever good enough, anyway.
At the age of eighteen, Dracula by Bram Stoker was published. It may sound cliché to say, but this book, quite simply, changed my life. I was already an avid reader, but nothing had ever caught my interest so thoroughly. Quite simply, I became obsessed. I read the book numerous times and could think of little but vampires. Luckily, I had always been distracted at social gatherings, always more absorbed in my own thoughts than inane conversations of others, so no one really noticed a change in my demeanor, although I do believe I put off quite a few hopeful young women.
Nothing interesting happened to me over the following years. My parents began hinting that I should marry soon, but luckily I was able to ignore them. My obsession remained ever powerful, and by the age of twenty-three, I had looked up everything that could possibly pertain to vampires. There was, of course, a thousand different legends, each slightly different from the other. No human legend has ever gotten it quite right, as I soon learned. [small smile]
I don’t know why, but one night I was walking home later than usual, probably coming home from some social gathering, and I saw a dark figure huddled in the corner. I remember asking him if he was okay, and he responded with a cynical answer. We continued with a small banter, before he suddenly got tired of it and scared me away. This didn’t happen before I saw his ghostly pale skin and prominent fangs, and, suddenly, I was convinced he was a vampire.
I immediately became obsessed with the place – for the next week I came back every night, hoping to see him. I was disappointed, until the ninth night. I walked by on my way to the opera but decided perhaps that was a bit too early. I then resolved to come back after the show, and I did. But I was not met with the strange man I originally saw in the ally, but a gang of villains. Simply, they mugged me and left me for dead. I must have been bleeding; I believe that was what attracted his attention. I remember seeing the vampire I had looked for so desperately for little over a week and begging him to change me. I don’t remember what I said, but it must have been convincing, because here I sit before you today.
Yes, that vampire was Silas Metzger, and ever since that night, I have been at his disposal.”
thank you for offering up that information. so share with me something personal about you.
“Well, if you insist. I am calm in almost all situations. Actually, now that I think on it, I don’t believe there has ever been any time when I simply lost it. I consider myself wise; most people, Silas in particular, come to me when they need advice with how to deal with people or situations. I find that I grow bored easily – not necessarily with situations, but with people. There are not many people that I get along with or can tolerate for long periods of time. No, Silas does not get on my nerves, for whatever reason. I find him fascinating. He is my sire, after all. I owe him my new and obviously improved existence.
Unlike most, I have no self-confidence issues. I know that I am attractive, smart, interesting, and capable. To some this may sound arrogant, but I simply know that I am comfortable being me. I am quiet. I do not like to say more than is necessary in situations, but I never say too little, either. I try to be polite, as long as the other party makes the effort with me as well.
[silent] I suppose I am too cynical for my own good. I have very little faith in most creatures… Although, I trust Silas. I do not like the chaos he has caused, but if he believes it will be for the best, then I will go along with it.”
bad cop:
so what fancy things can you do? be specific.
“I have normal vampire powers. I am fast, strong, and immortal. I am actually faster than most vampires I know, and I have the ability to control lesser vampires around me. I think my obsession with vampires when I was human made me stronger than most when I became one. Of course, I had a very apt teacher.”
i bet you think you’re the best, huh? better than everyone else.
“Well, yes, actually. Werewolves are typically less refined and therefore less intelligent, but necessary nonetheless. Humans are bumbling idiots. Demons are bent on their own desires only. Angels… They’re just so good. Nothing should be that good.”
good cop:
so what are your likes and dislikes?
“I’m a very avid reader, mostly dark novels and fashion magazines. Yes, I am quite obsessed with fashion and dressing well, always. Critiquing others and their fashion choices is a fun past time as well. I’m a fan of good music; classical and, surprisingly, some modern rock. I like female vocalists with good voices, such as Amy Lee of Evanescence. I don’t like getting dirty, nor do I like it when people can’t dress themselves. I don’t see the point in going out of the house if you aren’t going to look your best. In fact, most people annoy me. I prefer to be alone.”
i’m wondering – do you have any distinguishing features?
“You have to ask? My hair is probably my most distinguishing feature, but my green eyes are quite striking. I always dress well; I know what looks good on me – colors, styles, etc.”
so, are you seeing anyone special? or have anyone in mind?
“I don’t date.”
are you sure you don’t want some coffee, carmine?
“No thank you. I don’t have any more time to waste here.”
