The time is 2010 and you, be it mutant or human, are living in or are visiting England. The city life is quite prominent but the outskirts are mostly country landscaping. The advancement of civilization has been halted and has been on hiatus since the year 1990.
The Year 1990
The Dread came into official, announced, existence in late 1989. They were quite private about their plans and the meetings they had, knowing if anyone of the lesser mutants caught wind of their actions, they would get into trouble before the time was right.
On December 16, 1990 a group of mutants attacked some of the largest main stream human organizations. This group of mutants, called The Dread, was out to prove a point and make a statement; mutants were better. Not only were mutants better, but mutants who knew this were better than the other mutants as well. The Dread was organized by Spencer Gash. He renounced his name and became known as Demon. His mutant powers relying around fire, but he was extremely talented with his gift. Demon was able to form The Dread, a group of 40% of the mutants in the UK and 50% of the mutants in America.
When this group attacked, killing hundreds, maybe thousands of humans, the world was frightened. The Dread began spreading throughout, almost unstoppable. The fear is what gave them the most power. They could have been stopped, but no one was wiling to risk getting near them. They were a strong people, ready and willing to fight to the death. The Dread began taking over the highest positions in the world.
The Year 1991
The Dread was declared as an official, world-round political party. [It was related, quietly, to that of the Nazi party of the Holocaust.] As a political party, they became very open of their views and the non-mutant people were extremely frightened for their lives. The mutants who were against The Dread were only slightly less fearful of the Party. The Dread was gaining too much power and the propaganda for them was around every corner. This was something they wanted to last and they had to influence everyone they could, including children.
The races were being segregated. The non-mutant humans were lucky if they got to attend school, while the mutant schools were extremely well off and also very biased. Again, it was related to the black and white segregation.
The Year 1995
It was in 1994 that a new generation of mutants, under the advisement of a few of the older generation elders, started The Reliance. They used the same tactics of quietness as The Dread did in their beginnings and finally emerged in 1995.
They grew in population throughout the world, realizing how powerful and overpowering they could actually be. Some were tempted to sway into an entirely separate form of revolution, but they were all convinced or their job before the came out.
In a very, very well organized motion, The Reliance began fighting almost mercilessly against The Dread. They were not to kill unless necessary, but most members of The Dread believed that they could win over all and made foolish decisions in the war between the two groups. Until The Reliance gained all of the positions previously held by the, now, dead political party, they fought and killed and protected those who were helpless.
Many of the non-mutants joined in the efforts… Until The Dread were gone and they all knew it. From that point, the humans slowly began shunning the mutant people on the whole. They took away the authority little by little until the mutants realized that they had little or none left.
The Year 1997
A man named Leison Keller became UKs representative in the World Union, a worldly government designed to keep order, or for the mutants, mayhem. After just a few months of being “the big man on campus” he released a statement.
“All mutants of any kind are to be marked. This is for their good and for their safety. In past years, the non-mutant folk have roughly treated the mutants that they knew about. I believe that once the people of England realize how many mutants we have, living with us, supporting our economy, they will begin to treat mutants with more respect and act with more dignity.
I feel this is necessary and I know that mutants are not all bad. We have had our troubles, but that does not mean things, people never change. We must change. The mutants have felt the need to hide, to recluse from the world and I am not agreeable to such behavior. They should be fighting for their rights like they once fought for ours. If we can only see the light in them, they will not have to fight.”
As he said, the mutants began the process termed “Markment”, a bit more like ‘market’ than some of them were happy with. Quite a few people were lulled into the feeling that Keller was being their friend. There wasn’t much to go against it. Even the non-mutants, some of them, felt better towards mutants or so it seemed.
Now
Every mutant is wrapped by a bracelet. Those who could remove the bracelet with too much ease were persuaded, in some unknown way, to get another, more permanent marking, a tattoo. “It’s a design of pride,” the doctors and organizers said. People are still adjusting. Some see that nothing has changed between the humans and the treatment of mutants. Others believe that everything is all right, as long as they keep their mark.
It all depends on where you are. If you have a problem with the mutants, they’ll have a problem with you. If you believe in second chances, they’ll take them.
The question is: What do Keller and his people really think?
It's time to find out.
But there is also something else going on behind the scenes.
A new group of mutants, The New Dawn, are on the rise. They are in opposition of the Markment process and they despise the government for making the act. They just despise humans in general. This group is lead by Chester Gash, the son of The Dread leader, Spencer Gash.
With Chester leading The New Dawn under his father's moniker, Demon, the government and the civilians are being fear what seems to be a potential war brewing. But, a force is beginning to rise against the dark forces of Demon. The Excelarators, a group of a chosen few led by Rowan Graystone, also known as Morningstar and his wife, Dr. Graystone, a.k.a. Oracle, have formed and are willing to stop at nothing to destroy The New Dawn.
The ultimate question is: will this bring out the war The New Dawn speaks of?
